The 84th Academy Awards will take place in Hollywood this Sunday, so we got to thinking about the pivotal supporting role dining has played in many of our favorite films. Some of the best and most memorable character interactions in film have centered around a dining experience, and, while there’s no award for best supporting scenery, here are the top 10 dining scenes we think deserve honorable mention!
1. Animal House – Food Fight
February got you down? The holidays are long gone and spring still seems far away. It’s cold, no one wants to leave the house and, let’s face it, Presidents’ Day doesn’t rank too high up in the holiday hierarchy.
So, how can you beat the winter blues? You could fork over cash and vacation days and fly away to a warm location, or you could use dining as an escape right in your hometown.
There are plenty of restaurants these days that can make you feel like you are somewhere far more glamorous, tropical or festive than just down the street. Here are some ideas for warming up your social life and breaking out of your winter couch coma.
Love to sleep in? Check. Enjoy conversations with friends over a fantastic meal? Check. Totally open to a socially acceptable reason to enjoy a grown-up beverage before noon? Yeah, that too. These are just a few of the many reasons why brunch is one of our favorite meals events.

1. Lady & the Tramp – Spaghetti kiss scene
This weekend, my friends and I packed up the car and made the drive from Chicago to Indianapolis for the Super Bowl.
I’ve made many cross-country road trips in my time, but this was unlike the ones from my childhood in several ways: mix tapes have been replaced by iPod playlists, I’m now driving instead of dozing in the back seat, and I am no longer quite as excited at the prospect of “getting” to eat fast food along the way.
I’m not ashamed to admit that I actively looked forward to Egg McMuffins and stops at Del Taco to break up the drive back in the day, but now I realize that enjoying actual meals at local restaurants along the way can be far more interesting, and delicious.
