Guest blogger Emily Knight of Our Knight Life took the Dine In vs Dine Out Restaurant.com challenge and she’s sharing her results!
My family loves to eat out. It’s something we have always enjoyed and thought that this year we would have to cut back on due to our effort to save some money. Thankfully, with Restaurant.com this isn’t always the case. In fact dining out can be much cheaper than dining in depending on the meal! Recently we headed out to Que Mas – a Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas with our two boys. (Baby D is too young to enjoy any food yet, but my older son LOVES dining out as much as my husband and I do.)
A $25 e-certificate on Restaurant.com only costs $10 and will make our $45 (minimum required purchase) cost only $20! My family ended up spending $50, using our e-cert our total was brought down to $25 + $10 tip. So instead of costing us $60 to dine out our total out of pocket was only $40 after tip.
We got a lot of food and drinks for that price!
- 2 Sodas
- Chips & Salsa (and some free bean dip for my son who thought the salsa was too spicy)
- Fresh Guacamole
- Vegetable Fajitas
- Santa Fe Steak
- Child Cheeseburger with Fries
In order to create these meals at home not only would I have to make something different for everyone, but I’d have to buy the following at a grocery store.
- Soda (2)
- Margarita Mix
- Tortilla Chips
- Avocados (3)
- Tomatoes (4)
- Red Peppers (2)
- Skirt Steak
- Mole Sauce
- Fajita Seasoning
- Refried Beans
- Sour Cream
- Ground Beef
- Hamburger Bun
After using VONS.com (Safeway) I added all 22 items in to my cart. My total was $86.01(before tax). That’s a Dining Out savings of $26.01 using Restaurant.com. I realize that I would have more food left over with the shopping trip then I would dining out, but I would also save myself over 3 hours of time dining out vs dining in between shopping and cooking. Plus we enjoyed some fun conversation in a new environment!
For my family that loves to dine out, it is nice to know that by using a Restaurant.com e-certificate we are all able to get what we want and still save money and time! I’m glad we don’t have to cut dining out from our family budget!
