Who doesn’t love crisp and refreshing summer cocktails? Get out of the ‘ol Margarita rut and quench your thirst in style with these tips from Ketel One expert, Dan Kaman.

Hot Summer Trends

In the summer, you will generally find a lot of drinks featuring vodka, rum, tequila and gin. In the last five years spirits such as pisco, mescal and cachaça have also started making their presence known. This summer, you will notice drinks that are refreshing, easy to sip on and that have a hint of tartness to them.

His summer staple – Ketel One Vodka and San Pellegrino with two limes. Not too sweet and a touch of tartness. (This drink is also a favorite of Carl Nolet Jr.- 11th generation member of the Nolet family, distillers of Ketel One Vodka.)

 It’s all in the mix

Quality Spirits: One of the most important things is using a quality base spirit and building from there. Bartenders and mixologists are using only ultra-premium spirits, to craft the perfect tasting cocktails.

Fresh Ingredients: Trending in not only restaurants, but local neighborhood venues as well is the use of fruits, vegetables and herbs that are sourced locally from farms that are common in the area. Adding fresh juices and flavors to the spirit definitely enhances the enjoyment of the cocktail.

Go Lo-Cal

This summer there is a focus on low calorie drinks from martinis to mixed drinks and punches.  Consumers want a drink that is flavorful and natural without the extra calories and added sweeteners.

What to order: A mixed berry infused water with Ketel One Citroen or a watermelon-basil water mixed with Ketel One Oranje to create drinks that are crisp and flavorful and that are lower in calories.
